Professional Earwax Removal for Children
Concerned that earwax may be affecting your child’s hearing or comfort? We assess enquiries for eligible children subject to age, symptoms, location and individual suitability.
Please contact us before booking. We will confirm whether the service is suitable and explain the available options.

Signs That May Need Professional Advice
Earwax is normal and protective. A build-up can sometimes affect hearing or comfort, but similar symptoms can have other causes.
When Does Earwax Need Attention?
Earwax naturally protects the ear canal and often moves out by itself. Professional advice may be appropriate when a build-up blocks the canal, affects hearing or prevents an ear examination.
We understand the symptoms and look inside the ears before removal is considered.
Is Earwax Removal Suitable for My Child?
Suitability depends on age, symptoms, ear history, comfort and the findings of an initial examination.

A Calm Appointment Designed Around Your Child
We explain the examination in age-appropriate language, introduce equipment gradually and allow time for questions.

How May Earwax Be Removed?
The approach depends on age, ear health, the wax and the child’s ability to remain comfortable. Microsuction may be considered for some eligible children following examination. It uses magnification and controlled suction, which can create unfamiliar noise or sensation.

Earwax Removal for Children FAQs
Clear, responsible information before you decide what to do next.
Does Hazelwood Hearcare treat children?+
Hazelwood Hearcare assesses enquiries for eligible children in selected areas. Please contact the team before booking so the current minimum age, location and individual suitability can be confirmed.
What is the minimum age?+
The minimum eligible age must be confirmed directly with Hazelwood Hearcare before an appointment is accepted.
How do I know if earwax is affecting my child?+
Possible signs include muffled hearing, asking for repetition, turning devices louder or describing a blocked sensation. These symptoms can have other causes, so an appropriate examination is important.
Does every child with earwax need it removed?+
No. Earwax is normal and often leaves the ear naturally. Removal may be considered when wax is causing problems or preventing an appropriate examination.
Is microsuction suitable for children?+
Microsuction may be considered for some eligible children after examination. Suitability depends on age, ear health, the wax and the child’s ability to remain comfortable and still.
Will the procedure hurt?+
Children may notice noise or unfamiliar sensations. The clinician explains the process and asks the child to communicate discomfort; treatment is paused or stopped when it cannot continue appropriately.
Does a parent need to be present?+
A parent or legal guardian must contact the team and remain involved. Hazelwood will explain the current consent requirements before accepting an appointment.
Should I use ear drops beforehand?+
Only follow preparation advice appropriate for your child. Tell the team about grommets, perforations, infection, surgery, pain or discharge before using any product.
Can I use cotton buds?+
Do not insert cotton buds or other objects into the ear canal because they can push wax deeper or cause injury.
What if my child has pain or fever?+
Pain, fever, discharge, bleeding, sudden hearing loss or a child who appears unwell may require advice from a pharmacist, GP, NHS 111 or another appropriate medical service.
How do I arrange an appointment?+
Call Hazelwood Hearcare or complete the eligibility form. The team will confirm age, symptoms, location, medical history, price and preparation before accepting a booking.
